Frames

I am currently collecting pictures of highly ornate frames for my sculpture class project on portraiture. I am going to create my own frames and cast them in plaster using the blanket-mold process.

I have always thought it was really interesting how paintings from the 1800's have these incredible frames but the carvers are rarely (if ever) given credit for their work. The frame is so often what gives a portait its importance and elevates its status to "art". I am planning to leave my frames empty and fill an entire wall with them.

More Source Book

Above and below is the work of Sarah Gerats. The above picture reminded me a lot of Hans Belmer's work. http://www.sarahgerats.be/
(more greytones!)
This is a rubbing of a bear omen carving from the Wu Liang Shrine that we studied in my Chinese art history class. I really like the graphic and comic quality of it. It was made in 151 AD in Shandong province (wish I had remembered that for the midterm. oops.)
Gary Duehr takes cellphone pictures of photos in newspapers and magazines (of current events) and then prints them on very large pieces of textured watercolor paper. He is currently having a show at SPACES gallery. http://www.spacesgallery.org/

Sannah Kvist

These are by Sannah Kvist. She was featured on Iheartphotograph- I love her use of color. Whites, greytones and creams are my current aesthetic obsession.

old car

These are some pictures I took this summer of a beat up old car. I love rust patterns and the colors that show up in patinas.
